How to update your Lean Canvas after new evidence

Use this when

Your research has changed how you understand the customer, the problem, or another important part of your business direction.

In Icanpreneur

  1. Open your startup workspace and review the latest findings from the research that changed your thinking.
  2. In Research, go through the relevant Insights and confirm what the new evidence is actually telling you.
  3. Open Canvas and review the parts of the business model that are affected by that evidence.
  4. Go to Builder and open the task that matches what needs to change first.
  5. If the new evidence changes who you are targeting or what obstacle matters most, update Customer Segments and Customer Problems first.
  6. If the evidence changes how you create value, continue through the later Builder tasks and refine the relevant parts of your direction, such as your Unique Value Proposition, Traction Channels, Revenue Streams, Cost Structure, or Key Metrics.
  7. Keep the updates specific. Replace assumptions that no longer hold up and tighten the parts that are now clearer because of the evidence.
  8. Return to Canvas and check that the updated business model still fits together as a whole.
  9. Review the downstream assets connected to that direction, such as your Buyer Persona, Positioning & Messaging, Landing page copy, or Sales pitch deck, and update or regenerate them if the canvas changes affect them.
  10. Repeat this whenever meaningful new evidence changes your understanding of the business.

What you'll get

A Lean Canvas that reflects your latest evidence instead of outdated assumptions.
